18:36 - "and what p.o. would you like to use -- eek a bird! -- on that order?"
and that about sums up the biggest patch of uproar at work today. poor little bird, flew in through the warehouse -- it had been inside for a few minutes when it flew over near my desk and i finally noted that my co-workers WEREN'T cutting up and throwing something around as i had assumed based on corner-of-the-eye vision. it may have knocked itself out when casey caught it in an umbrella, but i was too busy finishing up taking that order to know for sure...
so yeah, madonna and britney lost to a common songbird in the hubbub-production competition. just barely, but hah.
00:06 - so three weeks after signing up for it, i've finally got dsl! thus you might expect this thing to be updated a little more frequently. alas, i really really really need to get a windows driver that still recognizes my monitor and deems it capable of more than 16 colors... off the internet, 16's not that annoying, and even in places with pictures it's better than oh, say, text-only like lynx, but... ok, it sucks.

19:27 - i answered my first on-the-job phone call in french today. it was fun. jean the canadian customer gave me all the numbers in english and told me that i spoke very good french -- a sure sign that my accent is horribly lousy -- but i felt more useful than i have in weeks.
really, though, thus far my least favorite aspect of my job is the "required to look like a grown-up" part. i don't naturally bother with things like ironing clothes or drying my hair... because i'm not practiced in these arts, they take an inordinate amount of time, thus forcing me to wake up earlier than 7:30 to make it out the door by 7:45. urgh.
i don't like the new ttu usernames. ktmahar21@tntech.edu? i can understand that zeros and ones can be confused with o's and l's... but why not just leave them out altogether? i could be ktmahar@tntech.edu, and then, in the odd, odd reality where a second k.t. mahar shows up, s/he can have ktmahar2@tntech.edu. as is, it looks like i'm trying to inaccurately advertise my age...

15:50 - things are moving almost too fast. almost.
i got the fleetguard job -- i start tomorrow. i've found a cheap two bedroom apartment i can afford all on my own... while i really wouldn't have minded finding a roommate and getting someplace a bit ritzier (dave's planning to loan me much of his furniture since it won't fit in his new place in knoxville, so simply taking over his apartment would've meant fewer backaches...), now that i've put down the deposit i find myself drooling over the idea of having a whole extra room to use as a study. assuming all goes well, i should get the keys friday and move over next weekend.
whee! i think everything's going fine now, but it's gotten to be such a habit that i feel like i should be stressing out anyhow...
